Description
Single volume of handwritten music on what is most likely pre-printed staff paper. The front is inscribed with "St. Wheatland's Book" and on the inside cover is written "Stephen Wheatland, Cambridge." This volume most likely belonged to Stephen Goodhue Wheatland, and although the work is undated, records indicate that he only lived in Cambridge during his years at Harvard in the 1840s. The volume contains mostly airs, waltzes, marches, and other dance music, with many melodies from popular operas. Song titles include: Boston Cadet’s march Drink to me only Massachusetts quick step Rise Cynthia Rise Circus March Oh(?), Cruel Maid Here’s a Health &c. &c.
