[Invitation to a dance]

Published 1891. Free to read and download from Internet Archive.

Description

An invitation to a "Grand Hop" at Wiese's Hall, put on by the Mt. Joy Social Club. The music is provided by Ernest Otto's Ochestra, and tickets are 75 cents. On the front of the card is a beautiful winter scene placed on the shape of a ladie's fan. On the back is a list giving the order of the different dances, such as waltz, polka, and Rheinlaender. Committee members are also listed on the invitation. They include: Arrangement: Julius Wellendorf, Henry Soll, Rudolph Kuhl, Johannis Arp, Reception: Ferdinand Wulff, Henry Herman, W.M. Carstens, Floor: Henry Gertz, Henry Wiese, John Arp. In a search for the location of Wiese's Hall, it was discovered in History of Scott County Iowa,(1882) that Peter Wiese "took charge" of the Six Mile House, a hotel in Mt. Joy, in 1863, and he had a son named Henry.
