"Fraternity Blues" sheet music, 1930
By Kay Kyser. Published 1930. Free to read and download from Internet Archive.
Description
Before he became a national star several times over, James "Kay" Kyser wrote a few minor hits such as this, where Spencer Murphy's lyrics describe a protagonist whose date keeps swinging with guys from every campus fraternity. You can hear it on 78rpm discs such as Domino 4660 by the "Varsity Eight" (Adrian Schubert or Sam Lanin's orchestra - personal favorite version), Columbia 2322-D by "Ted Wallace Campus Boys" (Ed Kirkeby's orchestra), and Brunswick 4988 by Hal Kemp's orchestra, friends of Kay Kyser himself.
